This telescope is currently located in the observatory. It is a Meade 12" LX200GPS with the UHTC group. I really enjoy this telescope. I own a Meade ETX90 with the Autostar controller and really enjoyed that little scope. But when a friend of mine Mel Wurth brought his digital camera (SAC) over to try to image Mars during the spring of 2003 I realized I needed to upgrade the 12.5" Cave with a telescope that could do imaging. I did not want to miss Mars so I purchased the Meade over the Internet on Astromart. If you would like more information on the telescope please visit Meade.

The telescope is powered by two 12volt Deep Cycle Marine batteries and is controlled by the Meade LPI suite planetarium software. The scope is mounted on a custom steel peer that is filled with sand. The steel peer connects to a 10,000lb concrete "deadman" block that is 5'x5'x5'. This configuration has proven to be quite stable and could really support a much heavier telescope without a peer redesign or upgrade.
