Happy Ray Manor Observatory is a 12ft square roll-off roof design. I did not own a digital camera during the construction of the observatory to show progress. However, I will try to detail the construction has best I can. The observatory has housed several telescopes:
I have added a trailer that will act as a command and storage facility. I will use the trailer to control the telescope and cameras as well as monitor the facility via wireless webcams. This trailer is 16 feet long and over 6 1/2 feet of inside clearance. The trailer comes with air conditioning and heat. Plenty of 110VAC outlets available on the inside with a trap door to allow for data and other wired connections to the observatory. I still need to trench for power to the observatory (670feet). When that is complete I will then connect the observatory to the house network via Wi-Fi. Currently the power supply for the telescope (12VDC), lights (12VDC), Compaq DeskPro tower (110VAC), 15" SVGA monitor (110VAC), radio (110VDC) is currently supplied by 2 12Volt Heavy Duty Marine Deep-Cycle batteries connected in parallel. A 750Watt inverter is used to supply 110VoltsAC at 60Hertz to the computer, monitor and radio. When 110 is finally connected I will convert to a 110VAC light system, and remove the 750Watt inverter. The batteries will continue to supply telescope, dew heater strips and other 12Volt DC devices. Please checkout the Observatory Construction page for some glamour shots of the outside |
